No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted
him.

And if someone likewise competes as an athlete, he is not crowned
as victor
unless he competes according to the rules.

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of

life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

And if a man also strive for masteries,
yet
is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the commanding officer.

Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.

Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.
