2 Timothy 2:17-20
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
17
and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18
men
who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place; and they are jeopardizing the faith of some.
19
Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal: 'The Lord knows those who are His;' and, 'Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to keep away from wickedness.'
20
Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver implements, but also
implements
of wood and of earthenware, and some
are
for honor while others
are
for dishonor.
King James Version
Chapter 2
17
And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18
Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 2
17
and their teaching will spread like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are among them.
18
They have departed from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and are ruining the faith of some.
19
Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, bearing this inscription:
The Lord knows those who are his,
and let everyone who calls on the name of the Lord turn away from wickedness.
20
Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also those of wood and clay; some for honorable use and some for dishonorable.
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
17
This kind of talk spreads like cancer, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus.
18
They have left the path of truth, claiming that the resurrection of the dead has already occurred; in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith.
19
But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: 'The
Lord
knows those who are his,' and 'All who belong to the
Lord
must turn away from evil.'
20
In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use.
English Standard Version
Chapter 2
17
and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18
who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some.
19
But God 's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity."
20
Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.
New International Version
Chapter 2
17
Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18
who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.
19
Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
20
In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.
New King James Version

18
who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.
19
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
20
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
