2 Chronicles 12:2-8
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
2
And it came about in King Rehoboam’s fifth year, because they had been unfaithful to the
Lord
, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem
3
with 1,200 chariots and sixty thousand horsemen. And the people who came with him from Egypt were innumerable: the Lubim, the Sukkiim, and the Ethiopians.
4
And he captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
5
Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the princes of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and he said to them, 'This is what the
Lord
says: ‘You have abandoned Me, so I also have abandoned you to Shishak.’?'
6
So the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, 'The
Lord
is righteous.'
7
When the
Lord
saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the
Lord
came to Shemaiah, saying, 'They have humbled themselves,
so
I will not destroy them; and I will grant them a little deliverance, and My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak.
8
But they will become his slaves, so that they may learn
the difference between
My service and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.'
King James Version
Chapter 12
2
And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the
Lord
,
3
With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
4
And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
5
Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the
Lord
, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
6
Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The
Lord
is righteous.
7
And when the
Lord
saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the
Lord
came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
8
Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

Chapter 12
2
Because they were unfaithful to the
Lord
, in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, King Shishak of Egypt went to war against Jerusalem
3
with 1,200 chariots, 60,000 cavalrymen, and countless people who came with him from Egypt—Libyans, Sukkiim, and Cushites.
4
He captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
5
Then the prophet Shemaiah went to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah who were gathered at Jerusalem because of Shishak. He said to them: "This is what the
Lord
says: ‘You have abandoned me; therefore, I have abandoned you to Shishak.’"
6
So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, "The
Lord
is righteous."
7
When the
Lord
saw that they had humbled themselves, the
Lord
’s message came to Shemaiah: "They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them but will grant them a little deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak.
8
However, they will become his servants so that they may recognize the difference between serving me and serving the kingdoms of other lands."
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
2
Because they were unfaithful to the
Lord
, King Shishak of Egypt came up and attacked Jerusalem in the fifth year of King Rehoboam’s reign.
3
He came with 1,200 chariots, 60,000 horses, and a countless army of foot soldiers, including Libyans, Sukkites, and Ethiopians.
4
Shishak conquered Judah’s fortified towns and then advanced to attack Jerusalem.
5
The prophet Shemaiah then met with Rehoboam and Judah’s leaders, who had all fled to Jerusalem because of Shishak. Shemaiah told them, 'This is what the
Lord
says: You have abandoned me, so I am abandoning you to Shishak.'
6
Then the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, 'The
Lord
is right in doing this to us!'
7
When the
Lord
saw their change of heart, he gave this message to Shemaiah: 'Since the people have humbled themselves, I will not completely destroy them and will soon give them some relief. I will not use Shishak to pour out my anger on Jerusalem.
8
But they will become his subjects, so they will know the difference between serving me and serving earthly rulers.'
