1 Timothy 5:16-18
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
16
If any woman who is a believer has
dependent
widows, she must assist them and the church must not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are actually widows.
17
The elders who lead well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.
18
For the Scripture says, 'YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE IT IS THRESHING,' and 'The laborer is worthy of his wages.'
King James Version
Chapter 5
16
If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
17
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
18
For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer
is
worthy of his reward.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
16
If any believing woman has widows in her family, let her help them. Let the church not be burdened, so that it can help widows in genuine need.
17
The elders who are good leaders are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.
18
For the Scripture says: Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain, and, "The worker is worthy of his wages."
New Living Translation
Chapter 5
16
If a woman who is a believer has relatives who are widows, she must take care of them and not put the responsibility on the church. Then the church can care for the widows who are truly alone.
17
Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching.
18
For the Scripture says, 'You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.' And in another place, 'Those who work deserve their pay!'
English Standard Version
Chapter 5
16
If any believing woman has relatives who are widows, let her care for them. Let the church not be burdened, so that it may care for those who are truly widows.
17
Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.
18
For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.”
New International Version
Chapter 5
16
If any woman who is a believer has widows in her care, she should continue to help them and not let the church be burdened with them, so that the church can help those widows who are really in need.
17
The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.
18
For Scripture says, 'Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,' and 'The worker deserves his wages.'
New King James Version
