1 Samuel 9:5-8
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 9
5
When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, 'Come, and let’s return, or else my father will stop
being concerned
about the donkeys and will become anxious about us.'
6
But he said to him, 'Behold now,
there is
a man of God in this city, and the man is held in honor; everything that he says definitely comes
true.
Now let’s go there, perhaps he can tell us about our journey on which we have set out.'
7
Then Saul said to his servant, 'But look, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread is gone from our sacks and there is no gift to bring to the man of God. What do we have?'
8
The servant answered Saul again and said, 'Look, I have in my hand a fourth of a shekel of silver; I will give
it
to the man of God and he will tell us our way.'
King James Version
Chapter 9
5
And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses, and take thought for us.
6
And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go.
7
Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we?
8
And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 9
5
When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, "Come on, let’s go back, or my father will stop worrying about the donkeys and start worrying about us."
6
"Look," the servant said, "there’s a man of God in this city who is highly respected; everything he says is sure to come true. Let’s go there now. Maybe he’ll tell us which way we should go."
7
"Suppose we do go," Saul said to his servant, "what do we take the man? The food from our packs is gone, and there’s no gift to take to the man of God. What do we have?"
8
The servant answered Saul: "Here, I have a little silver. I’ll give it to the man of God, and he will tell us which way we should go."
New Living Translation
Chapter 9
5
Finally, they entered the region of Zuph, and Saul said to his servant, 'Let’s go home. By now my father will be more worried about us than about the donkeys!'
6
But the servant said, 'I’ve just thought of something! There is a man of God who lives here in this town. He is held in high honor by all the people because everything he says comes true. Let’s go find him. Perhaps he can tell us which way to go.'
7
But we don’t have anything to offer him,' Saul replied. 'Even our food is gone, and we don’t have a thing to give him.'
8
Well,' the servant said, 'I have one small silver piece. We can at least offer it to the man of God and see what happens!'
English Standard Version

Chapter 9
5
When they reached the district of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, "Come, let’s go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us."

But the servant replied, "Look, in this town there is a man of God; he is highly respected, and everything he says comes true. Let’s go there now. Perhaps he will tell us what way to take."
7
Saul said to his servant, "If we go, what can we give the man? The food in our sacks is gone. We have no gift to take to the man of God. What do we have?"
8
The servant answered him again. "Look," he said, "I have a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to take."
