1 Samuel 3:1-3
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 3
1
Now the boy Samuel was attending to the service of the
Lord
before Eli. And word from the
Lord
was rare in those days; visions were infrequent.
2
But it happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyesight had begun to be poor
and
he could not see
well),
3
and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the
Lord
where the ark of God
was,
King James Version
Chapter 3
1
And the child Samuel ministered unto the
Lord
before Eli. And the word of the
Lord
was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2
And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3
And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the
Lord
, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

2
One day Eli, whose eyesight was failing, was lying in his usual place.
3
Before the lamp of God had gone out, Samuel was lying down in the temple of the
Lord
, where the ark of God was located.

2
One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone to bed.
3
The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God.
