1 Samuel 25:34-36
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 25
34
Nevertheless, as the
Lord
God of Israel lives, who has restrained me from harming you, if you had not come quickly to meet me, there certainly would not have been left to Nabal until the morning light
as much as
one male.'
35
So David accepted from her hand what she had brought him, and said to her, 'Go up to your house in peace. See, I have listened to you and granted your request.'
36
Then Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was having a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal’s heart was cheerful within him, for he was very drunk; so she did not tell him anything at all until the morning light.
King James Version
Chapter 25
34
For in very deed, as the
Lord
God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
35
So David received of her hand that which she had brought him, and said unto her, Go up in peace to thine house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person.
36
And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 25
34
Otherwise, as surely as the
Lord
God of Israel lives, who prevented me from harming you, if you had not come quickly to meet me, Nabal wouldn’t have had any males left by morning light."
35
Then David accepted what she had brought him and said, "Go home in peace. See, I have heard what you said and have granted your request."
36
Then Abigail went to Nabal, and there he was in his house, holding a feast fit for a king. Nabal’s heart was cheerful, and he was very drunk, so she didn’t say anything to him until morning light.
New Living Translation
Chapter 25
34
For I swear by the
Lord
, the God of Israel, who has kept me from hurting you, that if you had not hurried out to meet me, not one of Nabal’s men would still be alive tomorrow morning.'
35
Then David accepted her present and told her, 'Return home in peace. I have heard what you said. We will not kill your husband.'
36
When Abigail arrived home, she found that Nabal was throwing a big party and was celebrating like a king. He was very drunk, so she didn’t tell him anything about her meeting with David until dawn the next day.
English Standard Version
Chapter 25
34
For as surely as the
Lord
, the God of Israel, lives, who has restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, truly by morning there had not been left to Nabal so much as one male."
35
Then David received from her hand what she had brought him. And he said to her, "Go up in peace to your house. See, I have obeyed your voice, and I have granted your petition."
36
And Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was holding a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal 's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk. So she told him nothing at all until the morning light.
New International Version
Chapter 25
34
Otherwise, as surely as the
Lord
, the God of Israel, lives, who has kept me from harming you, if you had not come quickly to meet me, not one male belonging to Nabal would have been left alive by daybreak."
35
Then David accepted from her hand what she had brought him and said, "Go home in peace. I have heard your words and granted your request."
36
When Abigail went to Nabal, he was in the house holding a banquet like that of a king. He was in high spirits and very drunk. So she told him nothing at all until daybreak.
New King James Version
Chapter 25
34
For indeed,
as
the
Lord
God of Israel lives, who has kept me back from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely by morning light no males would have been left to Nabal!”
35
So David received from her hand what she had brought him, and said to her, “Go up in peace to your house. See, I have heeded your voice and respected your person.”
36
Now Abigail went to Nabal, and there he was, holding a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal’s heart
was
merry within him, for he
was
very drunk; therefore she told him nothing, little or much, until morning light.
