1 Samuel 25:23-28
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 25
23
When Abigail saw David, she hurried and dismounted from her donkey, and fell on her face in front of David and bowed herself to the ground.
24
She fell at his feet and said, 'On me alone, my lord, be the blame. And please let your slave speak to you, and listen to the words of your slave.
25
Please do not let my lord pay attention to this worthless man, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and stupidity is with him; but I your slave did not see the young men of my lord whom you sent.
26
Now then, my lord, as the
Lord
lives, and as your soul lives, since the
Lord
has restrained you from shedding blood, and from avenging yourself by your own hand, now then, may your enemies and those who seek evil against my lord, be like Nabal.
27
And now let this gift which your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who accompany my lord.
28
Please forgive the offense of your slave; for the
Lord
will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the
Lord
, and evil will not be found in you all your days.
King James Version
Chapter 25
23
And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground,
24
And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: and let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thine audience, and hear the words of thine handmaid.
25
Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send.
26
Now therefore, my lord, as the
Lord
liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the
Lord
hath withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.
27
And now this blessing which thine handmaid hath brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow my lord.
28
I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the
Lord
will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the
Lord
, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 25
23
When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off the donkey and knelt down with her face to the ground and paid homage to David.
24
She knelt at his feet and said, "The guilt is mine, my lord, but please let your servant speak to you directly. Listen to the words of your servant.
25
My lord should pay no attention to this worthless fool Nabal, for he lives up to his name: His name means ‘stupid,’ and stupidity is all he knows. I, your servant, didn’t see my lord’s young men whom you sent.
26
Now my lord, as surely as the
Lord
lives and as you yourself live— it is the
Lord
who kept you from participating in bloodshed and avenging yourself by your own hand—may your enemies and those who intend to harm my lord be like Nabal.
27
Let this gift your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow my lord.
28
Please forgive your servant’s offense, for the
Lord
is certain to make a lasting dynasty for my lord because he fights the
Lord
’s battles. Throughout your life, may evil not be found in you.
New Living Translation
Chapter 25
23
When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed low before him.
24
She fell at his feet and said, 'I accept all blame in this matter, my lord. Please listen to what I have to say.
25
I know Nabal is a wicked and ill-tempered man; please don’t pay any attention to him. He is a fool, just as his name suggests. But I never even saw the young men you sent.
26
Now, my lord, as surely as the
Lord
lives and you yourself live, since the
Lord
has kept you from murdering and taking vengeance into your own hands, let all your enemies and those who try to harm you be as cursed as Nabal is.
27
And here is a present that I, your servant, have brought to you and your young men.
28
Please forgive me if I have offended you in any way. The
Lord
will surely reward you with a lasting dynasty, for you are fighting the
Lord
’s battles. And you have not done wrong throughout your entire life.

Chapter 25
23
When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed down before David with her face to the ground.
24
She fell at his feet and said: "Pardon your servant, my lord, and let me speak to you; hear what your servant has to say.
25
Please pay no attention, my lord, to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name—his name means Fool, and folly goes with him. And as for me, your servant, I did not see the men my lord sent.
26
And now, my lord, as surely as the
Lord
your God lives and as you live, since the
Lord
has kept you from bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hands, may your enemies and all who are intent on harming my lord be like Nabal.
27
And let this gift, which your servant has brought to my lord, be given to the men who follow you.
28
"Please forgive your servant’s presumption. The
Lord
your God will certainly make a lasting dynasty for my lord, because you fight the
Lord
’s battles, and no wrongdoing will be found in you as long as you live.

Please, let not my lord regard this scoundrel Nabal. For as his name
