1 Samuel 23:6-11
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 23
6
Now it came about, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah,
that
he came down
with
an ephod in his hand.
7
When it was reported to Saul that David had come to Keilah, Saul said, 'God has handed him over to me, for he shut himself in by entering a city with double gates and bars.'
8
So Saul summoned all the people for war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
9
But David knew that Saul was plotting evil against him; so he said to Abiathar the priest, 'Bring the ephod here.'
10
Then David said, '
Lord
God of Israel, Your servant has heard for certain that Saul is seeking to come to Keilah to destroy the city on my account.
11
Will the citizens of Keilah hand me over to him? Will Saul come down just as Your servant has heard?
Lord
God of Israel, please, tell Your servant.' And the
Lord
said, 'He will come down.'
King James Version
Chapter 23
6
And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7
And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.
8
And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
9
And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.
10
Then said David, O
Lord
God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
11
Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O
Lord
God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the
Lord
said, He will come down.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 23
6
Abiathar son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, and he brought an ephod with him.
7
When it was reported to Saul that David had gone to Keilah, he said, "God has handed him over to me, for he has trapped himself by entering a town with barred gates."
8
Then Saul summoned all the troops to go to war at Keilah and besiege David and his men.
9
When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to the priest Abiathar, "Bring the ephod."
10
Then David said, "
Lord
God of Israel, your servant has reliable information that Saul intends to come to Keilah and destroy the town because of me.
11
Will the citizens of Keilah hand me over to him? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard?
Lord
God of Israel, please tell your servant." The
Lord
answered, "He will come down."
New Living Translation
Chapter 23
6
Now when Abiathar son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, he brought the ephod with him.
7
Saul soon learned that David was at Keilah. 'Good!' he exclaimed. 'We’ve got him now! God has handed him over to me, for he has trapped himself in a walled town!'
8
So Saul mobilized his entire army to march to Keilah and besiege David and his men.
9
But David learned of Saul’s plan and told Abiathar the priest to bring the ephod and ask the
Lord
what he should do.
10
Then David prayed, 'O
Lord
, God of Israel, I have heard that Saul is planning to come and destroy Keilah because I am here.
11
Will the leaders of Keilah betray me to him? And will Saul actually come as I have heard? O
Lord
, God of Israel, please tell me.' And the
Lord
said, 'He will come.'
