1 Samuel 22:2-4
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 22
2
Then everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him; and he became captain over them. Now there were about four hundred men with him.
3
And David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, 'Please let my father and my mother come
and stay
with you until I know what God will do for me.'
4
Then he left them with the king of Moab; and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.
King James Version
Chapter 22
2
And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
3
And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.
4
And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.
Christian Standard Bible

In addition, every man who was desperate, in debt, or discontented rallied around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.
3
From there David went to Mizpeh of Moab where he said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and mother stay with you until I know what God will do for me."
4
So he left them in the care of the king of Moab, and they stayed with him the whole time David was in the stronghold.
New Living Translation
Chapter 22
2
Then others began coming — men who were in trouble or in debt or who were just discontented — until David was the captain of about 400 men.
3
Later David went to Mizpeh in Moab, where he asked the king, 'Please allow my father and mother to live here with you until I know what God is going to do for me.'
4
So David’s parents stayed in Moab with the king during the entire time David was living in his stronghold.
English Standard Version
