Chapter 1
7And it happened year after year, as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, that she would provoke her; so she wept and would not eat. 8Then Elkanah her husband would say to her, 'Hannah, why do you weep, and why do you not eat, and why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?'
9Then Hannah got up after eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
10She, greatly distressed, prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly.
11And she made a vow and said, 'LORD of armies, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your bond-servant and remember me, and not forget Your bond-servant, but will give Your bond-servant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head.'
12Now it came about, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli was watching her mouth.
13As for Hannah, she was speaking in her heart, only her lips were quivering, but her voice was not heard. So Eli thought that she was drunk.
14Then Eli said to her, 'How long will you behave like a drunk? Get rid of your wine!'
15But Hannah answered and said, 'No, my lord, I am a woman despairing in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD.
16Do not consider your bond-servant a useless woman, for I have spoken until now out of my great concern and provocation.'
17Then Eli answered and said, 'Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your request that you have asked of Him.'
18She said, 'Let your bond-servant find favor in your sight.' So the woman went on her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
19Then they got up early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD, and returned again to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.
20It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, 'Because I have asked for him of the LORD.'
21Then the man Elkanah went up with all his household to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice and to pay his vow.
22But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, 'I will not go until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, so that he may appear before the LORD and stay there for life.'

10And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.
11And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
12And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.
13Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
15And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
16Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
17Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
18And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
19And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
21And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
22But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

7Year after year, when she went up to the Lord's house, her rival taunted her in this way. Hannah would weep and would not eat. 8"Hannah, why are you crying? " her husband, Elkanah, would ask. "Why won't you eat? Why are you troubled? Am I not better to you than ten sons? "
9On one occasion, Hannah got up after they ate and drank at Shiloh. The priest Eli was sitting on a chair by the doorpost of the Lord's temple.
10Deeply hurt, Hannah prayed to the Lord and wept with many tears.
11Making a vow, she pleaded, "Lord of Armies, if you will take notice of your servant's affliction, remember and not forget me, and give your servant a son, I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and his hair will never be cut."
12While she continued praying in the Lord's presence, Eli watched her mouth.
13Hannah was praying silently, and though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. Eli thought she was drunk
14and said to her, "How long are you going to be drunk? Get rid of your wine! "
15"No, my lord," Hannah replied. "I am a woman with a broken heart. I haven't had any wine or beer; I've been pouring out my heart before the Lord.
16Don't think of me as a wicked woman; I've been praying from the depth of my anguish and resentment."
19The next morning Elkanah and Hannah got up early to worship before the Lord. Afterward, they returned home to Ramah. Then Elkanah was intimate with his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her.
20After some time, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, because she said, "I requested him from the Lord."

9Once after a sacrificial meal at Shiloh, Hannah got up and went to pray. Eli the priest was sitting at his customary place beside the entrance of the Tabernacle.
10Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the LORD.
11And she made this vow: 'O LORD of Heaven's Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the LORD, his hair will never be cut. '
12As she was praying to the LORD, Eli watched her.
13Seeing her lips moving but hearing no sound, he thought she had been drinking.
14'Must you come here drunk?' he demanded. 'Throw away your wine!'
15'Oh no, sir!' she replied. 'I haven't been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the LORD.
16Don't think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.'

15But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the LORD.
16Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation.”
17Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.”
18And she said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
19They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.
20And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked for him from the LORD.”

7This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat. 8Her husband Elkanah would say to her, 'Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don't you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don't I mean more to you than ten sons?'
9Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his chair by the doorpost of the LORD's house.
10In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly.
11And she made a vow, saying, 'LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head."
12As she kept on praying to the LORD, Eli observed her mouth.
13Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk
14and said to her, 'How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.'
15Not so, my lord,' Hannah replied, 'I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD.
16Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.'
19Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the LORD and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah made love to his wife Hannah, and the LORD remembered her.
20So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, 'Because I asked the LORD for him.'

16No tengas a tu sierva por mujer indigna ; porque hasta ahora he orado a causa de mi gran congoja y aflicción.
17Respondió Elí y dijo: Ve en paz ; y que el Dios de Israel te conceda la petición que le has hecho.
18Y ella dijo: Halle tu sierva gracia ante tus ojos. Y la mujer se puso en camino, comió y ya no estaba triste su semblante.
19Y se levantaron de mañana, adoraron delante del SEÑOR y regresaron de nuevo a su casa en Ramá. Y Elcana se llegó a Ana su mujer, y el SEÑOR se acordó de ella.

9Una vez, estando en Siló, Ana se levantó después de la comida. Y a la vista del sacerdote Elí, que estaba sentado en su silla junto a la puerta del santuario del SEÑOR,
10con gran angustia comenzó a orar al SEÑOR y a llorar desconsoladamente.
11Entonces hizo este voto: «SEÑOR Todopoderoso, si te dignas mirar la desdicha de esta sierva tuya, y si en vez de olvidarme te acuerdas de mí y me concedes un hijo varón, yo te lo entregaré para toda su vida, y nunca se le cortará el cabello».
12Como Ana estuvo orando largo rato ante el SEÑOR, Elí se fijó en su boca.
13Sus labios se movían, pero, debido a que Ana oraba en voz baja, no se podía oír su voz. Elí pensó que estaba borracha,
15?No, mi señor; no he bebido ni vino ni cerveza. Soy solo una mujer angustiada que ha venido a desahogarse delante del SEÑOR.
16No me tome usted por una mala mujer. He pasado este tiempo orando debido a mi angustia y aflicción.
18?Gracias. Ojalá favorezca usted siempre a esta sierva suya. Con esto, Ana se despidió y se fue a comer. Desde ese momento, su semblante cambió.
19Al día siguiente madrugaron y, después de adorar al SEÑOR, volvieron a su casa en Ramá. Luego Elcaná se unió a su esposa Ana, y el SEÑOR se acordó de ella.
20Ana concibió y, pasado un año, dio a luz un hijo y le puso por nombre Samuel, pues dijo: «Al SEÑOR se lo pedí».
