1 Samuel 17:41-44
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
41
Then the Philistine came and approached David, with the shield-bearer in front of him.
42
When the Philistine looked and saw David, he was contemptuous of him; for he was
only
a youth, and reddish, with a handsome appearance.
43
So the Philistine said to David, 'Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?' And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44
The Philistine also said to David, 'Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the wild animals.'
King James Version
Chapter 17
41
And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
42
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43
And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44
And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 17
41
The Philistine came closer and closer to David, with the shield-bearer in front of him.
42
When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him because he was just a youth, healthy and handsome.
43
He said to David, "Am I a dog that you come against me with sticks?" Then he cursed David by his gods.
44
"Come here," the Philistine called to David, "and I’ll give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts!"
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
41
Goliath walked out toward David with his shield bearer ahead of him,
42
sneering in contempt at this ruddy-faced boy.
43
Am I a dog,' he roared at David, 'that you come at me with a stick?' And he cursed David by the names of his gods.
44
Come over here, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!' Goliath yelled.
English Standard Version
Chapter 17
41
And the Philistine moved forward and came near to David, with his shield-bearer in front of him.
42
And when the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance.
43
And the Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44
The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field."
New International Version
Chapter 17
41
Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David.
42
He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him.
43
He said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44
"Come here," he said, "and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!"
New King James Version
Chapter 17
41
So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield
went
before him.
42
And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was
only
a youth, ruddy and good-looking.
43
So the Philistine said to David, “
Am
I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44
And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”
