Chapter 14
10But if they say, ‘Come up to us,’ then we will go up, for the LORD has handed them over to us; and this shall be the sign to us.' 11When the two of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines, the Philistines said, 'Behold, Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have kept themselves hidden.' 12So the men of the garrison responded to Jonathan and his armor bearer and said, 'Come up to us and we will inform you of something.' And Jonathan said to his armor bearer, 'Come up after me, for the LORD has handed them over to Israel.' 13Then Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his armor bearer behind him; and the men fell before Jonathan, and his armor bearer put some to death after him. 14Now that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armor bearer inflicted was about twenty men within about half a furrow in an acre of land. 15And there was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. Even the garrison and the raiders trembled, and the earth quaked so that it became a great trembling.
16Now Saul’s watchmen in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, and behold, the multitude dissolved; they went here and there.
17So Saul said to the people who were with him, 'Look carefully now and see who has left us.' And when they had looked, behold, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.
18Then Saul said to Ahijah, 'Bring the ark of God here.' For at that time the ark of God was with the sons of Israel.
19While Saul talked to the priest, the commotion in the camp of the Philistines continued and increased; so Saul said to the priest, 'Withdraw your hand.'
20Then Saul and all the people who were with him rallied and came to the battle; and behold, every man’s sword was against his fellow Philistine, and there was very great confusion.
21Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines previously, who went up with them all around in the camp, even they also returned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22When all the men of Israel who had kept themselves hidden in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines had fled, they also closely pursued them in the battle.
23So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle spread beyond Beth-aven.
24Now the men of Israel were hard-pressed on that day, for Saul had put the people under oath, saying, 'Cursed be the man who eats food before evening, and before I have avenged myself on my enemies.' So none of the people tasted food.
25All the people of the land entered the forest, and there was honey on the ground.
26When the people entered the forest, behold, there was honey dripping; but no man put his hand to his mouth, because the people feared the oath.
27However, Jonathan had not heard it when his father put the people under oath; so he put out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.
28Then one of the people responded and said, 'Your father strictly put the people under oath, saying, ‘Cursed be the man who eats food today.’?' And the people were weary.
29Then Jonathan said, 'My father has troubled the land. See now that my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.
30How much more, if only the people had freely eaten today of the spoils of their enemies which they found! For now the defeat among the Philistines has not been great.'
31They attacked the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. But the people were very tired.
32So the people loudly rushed upon the spoils, and took sheep, oxen, and calves, and slaughtered them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.
33Then observers informed Saul, saying, 'Look, the people are sinning against the LORD by eating meat with the blood.' And he said, 'You have acted treacherously; roll a large rock to me today.'
34Then Saul said, 'Disperse yourselves among the people and say to them, ‘Each one of you bring me his ox or his sheep, and slaughter it here and eat; and do not sin against the LORD by eating it with the blood.’?' So all the people brought them that night, each one his ox with him, and they slaughtered them there.
35And Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first altar that he built to the LORD.
36Then Saul said, 'Let’s go down after the Philistines by night and take plunder among them until the morning light, and let’s not leave a man among them alive.' And they said, 'Do whatever seems good to you.' So the priest said, 'Let’s approach God here.'
37So Saul inquired of God: 'Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You hand them over to Israel?' But He did not answer him on that day.
38Then Saul said, 'Come here, all you leaders of the people, and investigate and see how this sin has happened today.
39For as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, even if it is in my son Jonathan, he shall assuredly die!' But not one of all the people answered him.
40Then he said to all Israel, 'You shall be on one side, and I and my son Jonathan will be on the other side.' And the people said to Saul, 'Do what seems good to you.'
41Therefore, Saul said to the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Give a perfect lot.' And Jonathan and Saul were selected by lot, but the people were exonerated.
42Then Saul said, 'Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan.' And Jonathan was selected by lot.
43So Saul said to Jonathan, 'Tell me what you have done.' And Jonathan told him, and said, 'I did indeed taste a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. Here I am, I must die!'
44And Saul said, 'May God do the same to me and more also, for you shall certainly die, Jonathan!'
45But the people said to Saul, 'Must Jonathan die, he who has brought about this great victory in Israel? Far from it! As the LORD lives, not even a hair of his head shall fall to the ground, because he has worked with God this day.' So the people rescued Jonathan and he did not die.
46Then Saul went up from pursuing the Philistines, and the Philistines went to their own place.

10But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us. 11And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves. 12And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel. 13And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him. 14And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow. 15And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.
16And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.
17Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.
18And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.
19And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.
20And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.
21Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.
22Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
23So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Bethaven.
24And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.
25And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.
26And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.
27But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.
28Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were faint.
29Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
30How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely to day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for had there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?
31And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.
32And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.
33Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have transgressed: roll a great stone unto me this day.
34And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.
35And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.
36And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.
37And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.
38And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.
39For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.
40Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.
41Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.
42And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.
43Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.
44And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.
45And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.
46Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.

12The men of the garrison called to Jonathan and his armor-bearer. "Come on up, and we'll teach you a lesson! " they said."Follow me," Jonathan told his armor-bearer, "for the Lord has handed them over to Israel."
13Jonathan climbed up using his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer behind him. Jonathan cut them down, and his armor-bearer followed and finished them off.
14In that first assault Jonathan and his armor-bearer struck down about twenty men in a half-acre field.
15Terror spread through the Philistine camp and the open fields to all the troops. Even the garrison and the raiding parties were terrified. The earth shook, and terror spread from God.
16When Saul's watchmen in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, they saw the panicking troops scattering in every direction.
17So Saul said to the troops with him, "Call the roll and determine who has left us." They called the roll and saw that Jonathan and his armor-bearer were gone.
18Saul told Ahijah, "Bring the ark of God," for it was with the Israelites at that time.
19While Saul spoke to the priest, the panic in the Philistine camp increased in intensity. So Saul said to the priest, "Stop what you're doing."
20Saul and all the troops with him assembled and marched to the battle, and there the Philistines were, fighting against each other in great confusion!
21There were Hebrews from the area who had gone earlier into the camp to join the Philistines, but even they joined the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22When all the Israelite men who had been hiding in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were fleeing, they also joined Saul and Jonathan in the battle.
23So the Lord saved Israel that day. The battle extended beyond Beth-aven,
24and the men of Israel were worn out that day, for Saul had placed the troops under an oath: "The man who eats food before evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies is cursed." So none of the troops tasted any food.
25Everyone went into the forest, and there was honey on the ground.
26When the troops entered the forest, they saw the flow of honey, but none of them ate any of it because they feared the oath.
27However, Jonathan had not heard his father make the troops swear the oath. He reached out with the end of the staff he was carrying and dipped it into the honeycomb. When he ate the honey, he had renewed energy.
28Then one of the troops said, "Your father made the troops solemnly swear, 'The man who eats food today is cursed,' and the troops are exhausted."
29Jonathan replied, "My father has brought trouble to the land. Just look at how I have renewed energy because I tasted a little of this honey.
30How much better if the troops had eaten freely today from the plunder they took from their enemies! Then the slaughter of the Philistines would have been much greater."
31The Israelites struck down the Philistines that day from Michmash all the way to Aijalon. Since the Israelites were completely exhausted,
32they rushed to the plunder, took sheep, goats, cattle, and calves, slaughtered them on the ground, and ate meat with the blood still in it.
33Some reported to Saul, "Look, the troops are sinning against the Lord by eating meat with the blood still in it."Saul said, "You have been unfaithful. Roll a large stone over here at once."
34He then said, "Go among the troops and say to them, 'Let each man bring me his ox or his sheep. Do the slaughtering here and then you can eat. Don't sin against the Lord by eating meat with the blood in it.' " So every one of the troops brought his ox that night and slaughtered it there.
35Then Saul built an altar to the Lord; it was the first time he had built an altar to the Lord.
38Saul said, "All you leaders of the troops, come here. Let's investigate how this sin has occurred today.
39As surely as the Lord lives who saves Israel, even if it is because of my son Jonathan, he must die! " Not one of the troops answered him.
45But the people said to Saul, "Must Jonathan die? He accomplished such a great deliverance for Israel! No, as the Lord lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for he worked with God's help today." So the people redeemed Jonathan, and he did not die.
46Then Saul gave up the pursuit of the Philistines, and the Philistines returned to their own territory.

13So they climbed up using both hands and feet, and the Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor bearer killed those who came behind them.
14They killed some twenty men in all, and their bodies were scattered over about half an acre.
16Saul's lookouts in Gibeah of Benjamin saw a strange sight--the vast army of Philistines began to melt away in every direction.
17'Call the roll and find out who's missing,' Saul ordered. And when they checked, they found that Jonathan and his armor bearer were gone.
18Then Saul shouted to Ahijah, 'Bring the ephod here!' For at that time Ahijah was wearing the ephod in front of the Israelites.
19But while Saul was talking to the priest, the confusion in the Philistine camp grew louder and louder. So Saul said to the priest, 'Never mind; let's get going!'
20Then Saul and all his men rushed out to the battle and found the Philistines killing each other. There was terrible confusion everywhere.
21Even the Hebrews who had previously gone over to the Philistine army revolted and joined in with Saul, Jonathan, and the rest of the Israelites.
22Likewise, the men of Israel who were hiding in the hill country of Ephraim joined the chase when they saw the Philistines running away.
23So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle continued to rage even beyond Beth-aven.
24Now the men of Israel were pressed to exhaustion that day, because Saul had placed them under an oath, saying, 'Let a curse fall on anyone who eats before evening--before I have full revenge on my enemies.' So no one ate anything all day,
25even though they had all found honeycomb on the ground in the forest.
26They didn't dare touch the honey because they all feared the oath they had taken.
27But Jonathan had not heard his father's command, and he dipped the end of his stick into a piece of honeycomb and ate the honey. After he had eaten it, he felt refreshed.
28But one of the men saw him and said, 'Your father made the army take a strict oath that anyone who eats food today will be cursed. That is why everyone is weary and faint.'
29'My father has made trouble for us all!' Jonathan exclaimed. 'A command like that only hurts us. See how refreshed I am now that I have eaten this little bit of honey.
30If the men had been allowed to eat freely from the food they found among our enemies, think how many more Philistines we could have killed!'
31They chased and killed the Philistines all day from Micmash to Aijalon, growing more and more faint.
32That evening they rushed for the battle plunder and butchered the sheep, goats, cattle, and calves, but they ate them without draining the blood.
34Then go out among the troops and tell them, 'Bring the cattle, sheep, and goats here to me. Kill them here, and drain the blood before you eat them. Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.'' So that night all the troops brought their animals and slaughtered them there.
35Then Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first of the altars he built to the LORD.
38Then Saul said to the leaders, 'Something's wrong! I want all my army commanders to come here. We must find out what sin was committed today.
39I vow by the name of the LORD who rescued Israel that the sinner will surely die, even if it is my own son Jonathan!' But no one would tell him what the trouble was.

42Then Saul said, “Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was taken.
43Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done.” And Jonathan told him, “I tasted a little honey with the tip of the staff that was in my hand. Here I am; I will die.”
44And Saul said, “God do so to me and more also; you shall surely die, Jonathan.”
45Then the people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day.” So the people ransomed Jonathan, so that he did not die.
46Then Saul went up from pursuing the Philistines, and the Philistines went to their own place.

13Jonathan climbed up, using his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer right behind him. The Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer followed and killed behind him.

23So on that day the LORD saved Israel, and the battle moved on beyond Beth Aven.
25The entire army entered the woods, and there was honey on the ground.
26When they went into the woods, they saw the honey oozing out; yet no one put his hand to his mouth, because they feared the oath.
27But Jonathan had not heard that his father had bound the people with the oath, so he reached out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the honeycomb. He raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.
28Then one of the soldiers told him, 'Your father bound the army under a strict oath, saying, 'Cursed be anyone who eats food today!' That is why the men are faint.'
29Jonathan said, 'My father has made trouble for the country. See how my eyes brightened when I tasted a little of this honey.
30How much better it would have been if the men had eaten today some of the plunder they took from their enemies. Would not the slaughter of the Philistines have been even greater?'
31That day, after the Israelites had struck down the Philistines from Mikmash to Aijalon, they were exhausted.
32They pounced on the plunder and, taking sheep, cattle and calves, they butchered them on the ground and ate them, together with the blood.
34Then he said, 'Go out among the men and tell them, 'Each of you bring me your cattle and sheep, and slaughter them here and eat them. Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with blood still in it.'' So everyone brought his ox that night and slaughtered it there.
35Then Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first time he had done this.
38Saul therefore said, 'Come here, all you who are leaders of the army, and let us find out what sin has been committed today.
39As surely as the LORD who rescues Israel lives, even if the guilt lies with my son Jonathan, he must die.' But not one of them said a word.
41Then Saul prayed to the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Why have you not answered your servant today? If the fault is in me or my son Jonathan, respond with Urim, but if the men of Israel are at fault, respond with Thummim.' Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot, and the men were cleared.
42Saul said, 'Cast the lot between me and Jonathan my son.' And Jonathan was taken.

10Pero si dicen : “Subid a nosotros”, entonces subiremos, porque el SEÑOR los ha entregado en nuestras manos; ésta será la señal para nosotros. 11Cuando ambos se mostraron a la guarnición de los filisteos, éstos dijeron: Mirad, los hebreos salen de las cavernas donde se habían escondido. 12Los hombres de la guarnición saludaron a Jonatán y a su escudero y dijeron: Subid a nosotros y os diremos algo. Y Jonatán dijo a su escudero: Sube tras mí, pues el SEÑOR los ha entregado en manos de Israel. 13Entonces Jonatán trepó con manos y pies, y tras él su escudero; y caían los filisteos delante de Jonatán, y tras él su escudero los remataba. 14La primera matanza que hicieron Jonatán y su escudero fue de unos veinte hombres en el espacio de una media yugada de tierra. 15Y hubo estremecimiento en el campamento, en el campo y entre todo el pueblo. Aun la guarnición y los merodeadores se estremecieron, y la tierra tembló ; fue un gran temblor.
16Y miraron los centinelas de Saúl en Guibeá de Benjamín, y he aquí que la multitud se dispersaba yendo en todas direcciones.
17Y Saúl dijo al pueblo que estaba con él: Pasad lista ahora y ved quién ha salido de entre nosotros. Cuando ellos pasaron lista, he aquí que Jonatán y su escudero no estaban.
18Entonces Saúl dijo a Ahías: Trae el arca de Dios. Porque en ese tiempo el arca de Dios estaba con los hijos de Israel.
19Y sucedió que mientras Saúl hablaba con el sacerdote, el alboroto en el campamento de los filisteos continuaba y aumentaba. Entonces Saúl dijo al sacerdote: Retira tu mano.
20Y Saúl y todo el pueblo que estaba con él se agruparon y fueron a la batalla, y he aquí que la espada de cada hombre se volvía contra su compañero, y había gran confusión.
21Entonces los hebreos que de antes estaban con los filisteos y que habían subido con ellos de los alrededores al campamento, aun ellos también se unieron con los israelitas que estaban con Saúl y Jonatán.
22Cuando todos los hombres de Israel que se habían escondido en la región montañosa de Efraín oyeron que los filisteos habían huido, ellos también los persiguieron muy de cerca en la batalla.
23Así libró el SEÑOR a Israel en aquel día. La batalla se extendió más allá de Bet-avén.
24Mas los hombres de Israel estaban en gran aprieto aquel día, porque Saúl había puesto al pueblo bajo juramento, diciendo: Maldito sea el hombre que tome alimento antes del anochecer, antes que me haya vengado de mis enemigos. Y nadie del pueblo probó alimento.
25Y todo el pueblo de la tierra entró en el bosque, y había miel en el suelo.
26Y al entrar el pueblo en el bosque, he aquí que la miel fluía, pero nadie se llevó la mano a la boca, porque el pueblo temía el juramento.
27Pero Jonatán no había oído cuando su padre puso al pueblo bajo juramento; por lo cual extendió la punta de la vara que llevaba en su mano, la metió en un panal de miel y se llevó la mano a la boca, y brillaron sus ojos.
28Entonces uno del pueblo le habló, y dijo: Tu padre puso bajo estricto juramento al pueblo, diciendo: “Maldito sea el hombre que tome alimento hoy.” Y el pueblo estaba desfallecido.
29Entonces Jonatán dijo: Mi padre ha traído dificultades a esta tierra. Ved ahora cómo brillan mis ojos porque probé un poco de esta miel.
30Cuánto más, si el pueblo hubiera comido hoy libremente del despojo que encontraron de sus enemigos. Pues hasta ahora la matanza entre los filisteos no ha sido grande.
31Aquel día, después de herir a los filisteos desde Micmas hasta Ajalón, el pueblo estaba muy cansado.
32Entonces el pueblo se lanzó sobre el despojo, y tomó ovejas, bueyes y becerros y los mataron en el suelo; y el pueblo los comió con la sangre.
33Y avisaron a Saúl, diciéndole: He aquí, el pueblo está pecando contra el SEÑOR, comiendo carne con la sangre. Y él dijo: Habéis obrado pérfidamente. Traedme hoy una piedra grande.
34Y Saúl añadió: Dispersaos entre el pueblo, y decidles: “Tráigame cada uno de vosotros su buey o su oveja; matadlos aquí y comed, pero no pequéis contra el SEÑOR comiendo carne con sangre.” Y aquella noche todo el pueblo trajo cada cual su buey consigo, y los mataron allí.
35Y edificó Saúl un altar al SEÑOR ; este fue el primer altar que él edificó al SEÑOR.
36Entonces Saúl dijo: Descendamos contra los filisteos de noche, tomemos despojo de entre ellos hasta el amanecer, y no dejemos ni uno de ellos. Y ellos dijeron: Haz lo que te parezca bien. Entonces el sacerdote dijo: Acerquémonos a Dios aquí.
37Y consultó Saúl a Dios : ¿Descenderé contra los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en manos de Israel? Pero El no le contestó en aquel día.
38Y Saúl dijo: Acercaos aquí todos vosotros, jefes del pueblo, y averiguad y ved cómo este pecado ha acontecido hoy.
39Porque vive el SEÑOR que libra a Israel, que aunque la culpa esté en mi hijo Jonatán, ciertamente morirá. Pero nadie, en todo el pueblo, le respondió.
40Entonces dijo a todo Israel: Vosotros estaréis a un lado, y yo y mi hijo Jonatán estaremos al otro lado. Y el pueblo dijo a Saúl: Haz lo que bien te parezca.
41Saúl entonces dijo al SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: Da suerte perfecta. Y fueron señalados Jonatán y Saúl, pero el pueblo quedó libre.
42Y Saúl dijo: Echad suertes entre mí y Jonatán mi hijo. Y Jonatán fue señalado.
43Dijo, pues, Saúl a Jonatán: Cuéntame lo que has hecho. Y Jonatán le respondió, y dijo: En verdad probé un poco de miel con la punta de la vara que tenía en la mano. Heme aquí, debo morir.
44Y dijo Saúl: Que Dios me haga esto, y aun más, pues ciertamente morirás, Jonatán.
45Pero el pueblo dijo a Saúl: ¿Debe morir Jonatán, el que ha obtenido esta gran liberación en Israel? No sea así. Vive el SEÑOR que ni un cabello de su cabeza caerá a tierra, porque él ha obrado con Dios en este día. Así el pueblo rescató a Jonatán, y no murió.
46Luego Saúl subió, dejando de perseguir a los filisteos, y los filisteos se fueron a su tierra.

11Cuando ambos se mostraron a la guarnición de los Filisteos, éstos dijeron: “Miren, los Hebreos salen de las cavernas donde se habían escondido.”
12Los hombres de la guarnición saludaron a Jonatán y a su escudero y dijeron: “Suban a nosotros y les diremos algo.” Y Jonatán dijo a su escudero: “Sube tras mí, pues el SEÑOR los ha entregado en manos de Israel.”
13Entonces Jonatán trepó con manos y pies, y tras él su escudero; y los Filisteos caían delante de Jonatán, y tras él su escudero los remataba.
14La primera matanza que hicieron Jonatán y su escudero fue de unos veinte hombres en el espacio de media yugada (aprox 15 metros cuadrados) de tierra.
15Hubo estremecimiento en el campamento, en el campo y entre todo el pueblo. Aun la guarnición y los de la avanzada se estremecieron, y la tierra tembló; fue un gran temblor.
16Los centinelas de Saúl que estaban en Guibeá de Benjamín vieron que la multitud se dispersaba e iban en todas direcciones.
17Y Saúl dijo al pueblo que estaba con él: “Pasen lista ahora y vean quién ha salido de entre nosotros.” Cuando ellos pasaron lista, notaron que Jonatán y su escudero no estaban.
18Entonces Saúl dijo a Ahías: “Trae el arca de Dios.” Porque en ese tiempo el arca de Dios estaba con los Israelitas.

27Pero Jonatán no había oído cuando su padre puso al pueblo bajo juramento; por lo cual extendió la punta de la vara que llevaba en su mano, la metió en un panal de miel y se llevó la mano a la boca, y brillaron sus ojos.
28Entonces uno del pueblo le dijo: “Tu padre puso bajo estricto juramento al pueblo y dijo: ‘Maldito sea el hombre que tome alimento hoy.’” Y el pueblo estaba desfallecido.
29Entonces Jonatán dijo: “Mi padre ha traído dificultades a esta tierra. Vean ahora cómo brillan mis ojos porque probé un poco de esta miel.
30Cómo sería, si el pueblo hubiera comido hoy libremente del despojo que encontraron de sus enemigos. Pues hasta ahora la matanza entre los Filisteos no ha sido grande.”
31Aquel día, después de herir a los Filisteos desde Micmas hasta Ajalón, el pueblo estaba muy cansado.

34Y Saúl añadió: “Dispérsense entre el pueblo, y díganles: ‘Tráigame cada uno de ustedes su buey o su oveja; mátenlos aquí y coman, pero no pequen contra el SEÑOR comiendo carne con sangre.’” Y aquella noche todo el pueblo trajo cada cual su buey consigo, y los mataron allí.
35Y edificó Saúl un altar al SEÑOR; éste fue el primer altar que él edificó al SEÑOR.
36Entonces Saúl dijo: “Descendamos contra los Filisteos de noche, tomemos despojo de entre ellos hasta el amanecer, y no dejemos ni uno de ellos.” Y ellos dijeron: “Haz lo que te parezca bien.” Entonces el sacerdote dijo: “Acerquémonos a Dios aquí.”
37Y consultó Saúl a Dios: “¿Descenderé contra los Filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en manos de Israel?” Pero El no le contestó en aquel día.
38Y Saúl dijo: “Acérquense aquí todos ustedes, jefes del pueblo, y averigüen y vean cómo este pecado ha acontecido hoy.
39Porque vive el SEÑOR que libra a Israel, que aunque la culpa esté en mi hijo Jonatán, ciertamente morirá.” Pero nadie, en todo el pueblo, le respondió.
40Entonces dijo a todo Israel: “Ustedes estarán a un lado, y yo y mi hijo Jonatán estaremos al otro lado.” Y el pueblo dijo a Saúl: “Haz lo que bien te parezca.”
41Saúl entonces dijo al SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: “Da suerte perfecta.” Y fueron señalados Jonatán y Saúl, pero el pueblo quedó libre.
42Y Saúl dijo: “Echen suertes entre mí y Jonatán mi hijo.” Y Jonatán fue señalado.
43Dijo, pues, Saúl a Jonatán: “Cuéntame lo que has hecho.” Y Jonatán le respondió: “En verdad probé un poco de miel con la punta de la vara que tenía en la mano. Aquí estoy, debo morir.”
44Y dijo Saúl: “Que Dios me haga esto, y aun más, pues ciertamente morirás, Jonatán.”
45Pero el pueblo dijo a Saúl: “¿Debe morir Jonatán, el que ha obtenido esta gran liberación en Israel? No sea así. Vive el SEÑOR que ni un cabello de su cabeza caerá a tierra, porque él ha obrado con Dios en este día.” Así el pueblo rescató a Jonatán, y no murió.
46Luego Saúl subió, dejando de perseguir a los Filisteos, y los Filisteos se fueron a su tierra.

13Jonatán trepó con pies y manos, seguido por su escudero. A los filisteos que eran derribados por Jonatán, el escudero los remataba.
14En ese primer encuentro, que tuvo lugar en un espacio reducido, Jonatán y su escudero mataron a unos veinte hombres.
15Cundió entonces el pánico en el campamento filisteo y entre el ejército que estaba en el campo abierto. Todos ellos se acobardaron, incluso los soldados de la guarnición y las tropas de asalto. Hasta la tierra tembló, y hubo un pánico extraordinario.
16Desde Guibeá de Benjamín, los centinelas de Saúl podían ver que el campamento huía en desbandada.
17Saúl dijo entonces a sus soldados: «Pasen revista, a ver quién de los nuestros falta». Así lo hicieron, y resultó que faltaban Jonatán y su escudero.
18Entonces Saúl le pidió a Ahías que trajera el arca de Dios. (En aquel tiempo el arca estaba con los israelitas).
19Pero, mientras hablaban, el desconcierto en el campo filisteo se hizo peor, así que Saúl le dijo al sacerdote: «¡No lo hagas!»
20En seguida Saúl reunió a su ejército, y todos juntos se lanzaron a la batalla. Era tal la confusión entre los filisteos, que se mataban unos a otros.
21Además, los hebreos que hacía tiempo se habían unido a los filisteos, y que estaban con ellos en el campamento, se pasaron a las filas de los israelitas que estaban con Saúl y Jonatán.
22Y los israelitas que se habían escondido en los montes de Efraín, al oír que los filisteos huían, se unieron a la batalla para perseguirlos.
23Así libró el SEÑOR a Israel aquel día, y la batalla se extendió más allá de Bet Avén.
25Al llegar todos a un bosque, notaron que había miel en el suelo.
26Cuando el ejército entró en el bosque, vieron que la miel corría como agua, pero por miedo al juramento nadie se atrevió a probarla.
27Sin embargo, Jonatán, que no había oído a su padre poner al ejército bajo juramento, alargó la vara que llevaba en la mano, hundió la punta en un panal de miel, y se la llevó a la boca. En seguida se le iluminó el rostro.
29?Mi padre le ha causado un gran daño al país —respondió Jonatán—. Miren cómo me volvió el color al rostro cuando probé un poco de esta miel.
30¡Imagínense si todo el ejército hubiera comido del botín que se le arrebató al enemigo! ¡Cuánto mayor habría sido el estrago causado a los filisteos!
31Aquel día los israelitas mataron filisteos desde Micmás hasta Ayalón. Y, como los soldados estaban exhaustos,
32echaron mano del botín. Agarraron ovejas, vacas y terneros, los degollaron sobre el suelo, y se comieron la carne con todo y sangre.
34También les dijo: ?Vayan y díganle a la gente que cada uno me traiga su toro o su oveja para degollarlos y comerlos aquí; y que no coman ya carne junto con la sangre, para que no pequen contra el SEÑOR. Esa misma noche cada uno llevó su toro, y lo degollaron allí.
35Luego Saúl construyó un altar al SEÑOR. Este fue el primer altar que levantó.
45Los soldados le replicaron: ?¡Cómo va a morir Jonatán, siendo que le ha dado esta gran victoria a Israel! ¡Jamás! Tan cierto como que el SEÑOR vive, que ni un pelo de su cabeza caerá al suelo, pues con la ayuda de Dios hizo esta proeza. Así libraron a Jonatán de la muerte.
46Saúl, a su vez, dejó de perseguir a los filisteos, los cuales regresaron a su tierra.

10Mas si nos dijeren así: Subid a nosotros, entonces subiremos, porque Jehová los ha entregado en nuestra mano; y esto nos será por señal. 11Se mostraron, pues, ambos a la guarnición de los filisteos, y los filisteos dijeron: He aquí los hebreos, que salen de las cavernas donde se habían escondido. 12Y los hombres de la guarnición respondieron a Jonatán y a su paje de armas, y dijeron: Subid a nosotros, y os haremos saber una cosa. Entonces Jonatán dijo a su paje de armas: Sube tras mí, porque Jehová los ha entregado en manos de Israel. 13Y subió Jonatán trepando con sus manos y sus pies, y tras él su paje de armas; y a los que caían delante de Jonatán, su paje de armas que iba tras él los mataba. 14Y fue esta primera matanza que hicieron Jonatán y su paje de armas, como veinte hombres, en el espacio de una media yugada de tierra. 15Y hubo pánico en el campamento y por el campo, y entre toda la gente de la guarnición; y los que habían ido a merodear, también ellos tuvieron pánico, y la tierra tembló; hubo, pues, gran consternación.
16Y los centinelas de Saúl vieron desde Gabaa de Benjamín cómo la multitud estaba turbada, e iba de un lado a otro y era deshecha.
17Entonces Saúl dijo al pueblo que estaba con él: Pasad ahora revista, y ved quién se haya ido de los nuestros. Pasaron revista, y he aquí que faltaba Jonatán y su paje de armas.
18Y Saúl dijo a Ahías: Trae el arca de Dios. Porque el arca de Dios estaba entonces con los hijos de Israel.
19Pero aconteció que mientras aún hablaba Saúl con el sacerdote, el alboroto que había en el campamento de los filisteos aumentaba, e iba creciendo en gran manera. Entonces dijo Saúl al sacerdote: Detén tu mano.
20Y juntando Saúl a todo el pueblo que con él estaba, llegaron hasta el lugar de la batalla; y he aquí que la espada de cada uno estaba vuelta contra su compañero, y había gran confusión.
21Y los hebreos que habían estado con los filisteos de tiempo atrás, y habían venido con ellos de los alrededores al campamento, se pusieron también del lado de los israelitas que estaban con Saúl y con Jonatán.
22Asimismo todos los israelitas que se habían escondido en el monte de Efraín, oyendo que los filisteos huían, también ellos los persiguieron en aquella batalla.
23Así salvó Jehová a Israel aquel día. Y llegó la batalla hasta Bet-avén.
24Pero los hombres de Israel fueron puestos en apuro aquel día; porque Saúl había juramentado al pueblo, diciendo: Cualquiera que coma pan antes de caer la noche, antes que haya tomado venganza de mis enemigos, sea maldito. Y todo el pueblo no había probado pan.
25Y todo el pueblo llegó a un bosque, donde había miel en la superficie del campo.
26Entró, pues, el pueblo en el bosque, y he aquí que la miel corría; pero no hubo quien hiciera llegar su mano a su boca, porque el pueblo temía el juramento.
27Pero Jonatán no había oído cuando su padre había juramentado al pueblo, y alargó la punta de una vara que traía en su mano, y la mojó en un panal de miel, y llevó su mano a la boca; y fueron aclarados sus ojos.
28Entonces habló uno del pueblo, diciendo: Tu padre ha hecho jurar solemnemente al pueblo, diciendo: Maldito sea el hombre que tome hoy alimento. Y el pueblo desfallecía.
29Respondió Jonatán: Mi padre ha turbado el país. Ved ahora cómo han sido aclarados mis ojos, por haber gustado un poco de esta miel.
30¿Cuánto más si el pueblo hubiera comido libremente hoy del botín tomado de sus enemigos? ¿No se habría hecho ahora mayor estrago entre los filisteos?
31E hirieron aquel día a los filisteos desde Micmas hasta Ajalón; pero el pueblo estaba muy cansado.
32Y se lanzó el pueblo sobre el botín, y tomaron ovejas y vacas y becerros, y los degollaron en el suelo; y el pueblo los comió con sangre.
33Y le dieron aviso a Saúl, diciendo: El pueblo peca contra Jehová, comiendo la carne con la sangre. Y él dijo: Vosotros habéis prevaricado; rodadme ahora acá una piedra grande.
34Además dijo Saúl: Esparcíos por el pueblo, y decidles que me traigan cada uno su vaca, y cada cual su oveja, y degolladlas aquí, y comed; y no pequéis contra Jehová comiendo la carne con la sangre. Y trajo todo el pueblo cada cual por su mano su vaca aquella noche, y las degollaron allí.
35Y edificó Saúl altar a Jehová; este altar fue el primero que edificó a Jehová.
36Y dijo Saúl: Descendamos de noche contra los filisteos, y los saquearemos hasta la mañana, y no dejaremos de ellos ninguno. Y ellos dijeron: Haz lo que bien te pareciere. Dijo luego el sacerdote: Acerquémonos aquí a Dios.
37Y Saúl consultó a Dios: ¿Descenderé tras los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en mano de Israel? Mas Jehová no le dio respuesta aquel día.
38Entonces dijo Saúl: Venid acá todos los principales del pueblo, y sabed y ved en qué ha consistido este pecado hoy;
39porque vive Jehová que salva a Israel, que aunque fuere en Jonatán mi hijo, de seguro morirá. Y no hubo en todo el pueblo quien le respondiese.
40Dijo luego a todo Israel: Vosotros estaréis a un lado, y yo y Jonatán mi hijo estaremos al otro lado. Y el pueblo respondió a Saúl: Haz lo que bien te pareciere.
41Entonces dijo Saúl a Jehová Dios de Israel: Da suerte perfecta. Y la suerte cayó sobre Jonatán y Saúl, y el pueblo salió libre.
42Y Saúl dijo: Echad suertes entre mí y Jonatán mi hijo. Y la suerte cayó sobre Jonatán.
43Entonces Saúl dijo a Jonatán: Declárame lo que has hecho. Y Jonatán se lo declaró y dijo: Ciertamente gusté un poco de miel con la punta de la vara que traía en mi mano; ¿y he de morir?
44Y Saúl respondió: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, que sin duda morirás, Jonatán.
45Entonces el pueblo dijo a Saúl: ¿Ha de morir Jonatán, el que ha hecho esta grande salvación en Israel? No será así. Vive Jehová, que no ha de caer un cabello de su cabeza en tierra, pues que ha actuado hoy con Dios. Así el pueblo libró de morir a Jonatán.
46Y Saúl dejó de seguir a los filisteos; y los filisteos se fueron a su lugar.
