1 Samuel 12:1-5
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
1
Then Samuel said to all Israel, 'Behold, I have listened to your voice for all that you said to me, and I have appointed a king over you.
2
Now, here is the king walking before you, but as for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. And I have walked before you since my youth to this day.
3
Here I am; testify against me before the
Lord
and His anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I exploited? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to close my eyes with it? I will return
it
to you.'
4
And they said, 'You have not exploited us or oppressed us, or taken anything from anyone’s hand.'
5
So he said to them, 'The
Lord
is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day that you have found nothing in my hand.' And they said, '
He is
witness.'
King James Version
Chapter 12
1
And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.
2
And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.
3
Behold, here I am: witness against me before the
Lord
, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.
4
And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.
5
And he said unto them, The
Lord
is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

Chapter 12
1
Then Samuel said to all Israel, "I have carefully listened to everything you said to me and placed a king over you.
2
Now you can see that the king is leading you. As for me, I’m old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have led you from my youth until now.
3
Here I am. Bring charges against me before the
Lord
and his anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Whom have I wronged or mistreated? From whom have I accepted a bribe to overlook something? I will return it to you."
4
"You haven’t wronged us, you haven’t mistreated us, and you haven’t taken anything from anyone," they responded.
5
He said to them, "The
Lord
is a witness against you, and his anointed is a witness today that you haven’t found anything in my hand." "He is a witness," they said.
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
1
Then Samuel addressed all Israel: 'I have done as you asked and given you a king.
2
Your king is now your leader. I stand here before you — an old, gray-haired man — and my sons serve you. I have served as your leader from the time I was a boy to this very day.
3
Now testify against me in the presence of the
Lord
and before his anointed one. Whose ox or donkey have I stolen? Have I ever cheated any of you? Have I ever oppressed you? Have I ever taken a bribe and perverted justice? Tell me and I will make right whatever I have done wrong.'
4
No,' they replied, 'you have never cheated or oppressed us, and you have never taken even a single bribe.'
5
The
Lord
and his anointed one are my witnesses today,' Samuel declared, 'that my hands are clean.' 'Yes, he is a witness,' they replied.

And now, behold, the king walks before you, and I am old and gray; and behold, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day.

They said, "You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man 's hand."

Chapter 12
1
Samuel said to all Israel, "I have listened to everything you said to me and have set a king over you.
2
Now you have a king as your leader. As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have been your leader from my youth until this day.
3
Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the
Lord
and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these things, I will make it right."
4
"You have not cheated or oppressed us," they replied. "You have not taken anything from anyone’s hand."
5
Samuel said to them, "The
Lord
is witness against you, and also his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." "He is witness," they said.
