1 Samuel 11:9-13
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 11
9
They said to the messengers who had come, 'This is what you shall say to the men of Jabesh-gilead: ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you will be saved.’?' So the messengers went and told the men of Jabesh; and they rejoiced.
10
Then the men of Jabesh said, 'Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you.'
11
The next morning Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp at the morning watch, and struck and killed the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
12
Then the people said to Samuel, 'Who is he that said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, so that we may put them to death!'
13
But Saul said, 'Not a single person shall be put to death this day, for today the
Lord
has brought about victory in Israel.'
King James Version
Chapter 11
9
And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
10
Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.
11
And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
12
And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.
13
And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the
Lord
hath wrought salvation in Israel.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 11
9
He told the messengers who had come, "Tell this to the men of Jabesh-gilead: ‘Deliverance will be yours tomorrow by the time the sun is hot.’" So the messengers told the men of Jabesh, and they rejoiced.
10
Then the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, "Tomorrow we will come out, and you can do whatever you want to us."
11
The next day Saul organized the troops into three divisions. During the morning watch, they invaded the Ammonite camp and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. There were survivors, but they were so scattered that no two of them were left together.
12
Afterward, the people said to Samuel, "Who said that Saul should not reign over us? Give us those men so we can kill them!"
13
But Saul ordered, "No one will be executed this day, for today the
Lord
has provided deliverance in Israel."
New Living Translation
Chapter 11
9
So Saul sent the messengers back to Jabesh-gilead to say, 'We will rescue you by noontime tomorrow!' There was great joy throughout the town when that message arrived!
10
The men of Jabesh then told their enemies, 'Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you can do to us whatever you wish.'
11
But before dawn the next morning, Saul arrived, having divided his army into three detachments. He launched a surprise attack against the Ammonites and slaughtered them the whole morning. The remnant of their army was so badly scattered that no two of them were left together.
12
Then the people exclaimed to Samuel, 'Now where are those men who said, ‘Why should Saul rule over us?’ Bring them here, and we will kill them!'
13
But Saul replied, 'No one will be executed today, for today the
Lord
has rescued Israel!'

9
And they said to the messengers who had come, "Thus shall you say to the men of Jabesh-gilead: ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have salvation.’" When the messengers came and told the men of Jabesh, they were glad.
10
Therefore the men of Jabesh said, "Tomorrow we will give ourselves up to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you."
11
And the next day Saul put the people in three companies. And they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. And those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
12
Then the people said to Samuel, "Who is it that said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death."

Chapter 11
9
They told the messengers who had come, "Say to the men of Jabesh Gilead, ‘By the time the sun is hot tomorrow, you will be rescued.’ " When the messengers went and reported this to the men of Jabesh, they were elated.
10
They said to the Ammonites, "Tomorrow we will surrender to you, and you can do to us whatever you like."
11
The next day Saul separated his men into three divisions; during the last watch of the night they broke into the camp of the Ammonites and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
12
The people then said to Samuel, "Who was it that asked, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Turn these men over to us so that we may put them to death."
13
But Saul said, "No one will be put to death today, for this day the
Lord
has rescued Israel."
