1 Samuel 11:2-4
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 11
2
But Nahash the Ammonite said to them, 'I will make
it
with you on this condition, that I will gouge out the right eye of every one of you, and
thereby
I will inflict a disgrace on all Israel.'
3
So the elders of Jabesh said to him, 'Allow us seven days to send messengers throughout the territory of Israel. Then, if there is no one to save us, we will come out to you.'
4
Then the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and spoke
these
words in the hearing of the people, and all the people raised their voices and wept.
King James Version
Chapter 11

3
And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.
4
Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.
