1 Peter 1:12-18
New American Standard Bible
13Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
15but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
16because it is written: 'YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.'
King James Version
13Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
Christian Standard Bible
13Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.
15But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct;
16for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.
17If you appeal to the Father who judges impartially according to each one’s work, you are to conduct yourselves in reverence during your time living as strangers.
18For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold,
New Living Translation
13So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.
14So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.
15But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.
16For the Scriptures say, 'You must be holy because I am holy.'
17And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as 'temporary residents.'
18For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value.
English Standard Version
13Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance,
15but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."
17And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one 's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile,
18knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold,
New International Version
13Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
16for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
New King James Version
13Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
15but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
17And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;
18knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,
